Lights Before Christmas Show - Toledo Zoo

It was Athena's and my first time visiting the lights at the zoo. I can't believe I've never gone before! She never got bored or cold, and we visited everything. The lights with the music were her favorite. We sat there for a super long time munching on soft pretzels and hot chocolate.

We highly recommend going!!

I had gotten these for Athena for Christmas. She caught me checking them out when they came in the mail and FLIPPED OUT AND NEEDED THEM ON RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! So she got them and hopped up on the table to show them off. She'd sleep in them if I let her.

For some time now Athena has been 110% against the idea of using the potty. We're talking kicking and screaming against the potty. So we were pretty stoked when she started wanting to watch US go "pee pee" and even more excited when she wanted to start hanging out on the potty.

Over the weekend, while thumbing through a Rolling Stone, she peed on the potty. 'Twas a proud moment :)

We still can't push the issue with her, but she's MUCH more open to negotiations.

Helping it get under the cupboards

(No one in this house has EVER swept under the couch.)

So the Brocus household loves the Roomba. We can see where it wouldn't be for everyone as it certainly isn't perfect... but it's a whole lot better than the job any of us are doing!

Athena's CRAZY fear of vacuums makes it impossible to sweep, but her love of the Roomba has given us the cleanest floor we've had in ages. PLUS she turns it on, monitors it herself, and helps it by Swiffer-ing! Athena can have an actual chore now! She's totally in charge of the floor.

As it dutifully went under the couch to clean, even hard-to-impress Louis said "That thing is awesome."

I'm sure you can understand why I've called her Mommy!

Handling Big Emotion:

Two-year-olds give the biggest hugs, flash the biggest smiles, and yes, throw the loudest, most spectacular tantrums. Because they live in the moment, their feelings are especially transparent. It's tempting to want to keep things happy for your child at all times. But it's also important for her to experience emotions like sadness, frustration, and anger without always being "rescued" by Mom or Dad, so she can learn to cope better with small setbacks. The wee one is going to be 2 in a couple weeks. It always sounded so cliche before, but it goes by so fast.

Every day she becomes more of a little person, and every day she becomes more fun. I'm looking forward to her being able to full-on converse with me.

I'm 22 months today! Seriously, 2 mere months away from being 2! What am I up to right now? Tantrums, tantrums, and more tantrums... but I'm so cute even THOSE are funny.

Month 22 Milestones:
Most children should be able to . . .
-Follow two step directions - Yep: Go in your room and get a diaper.
-Imitate others behavior - She puts on eye makeup. Wonder who she's imitating.
-Show good signs of bladder control - Dry diaper after nap time!
-Start to learn up to 10 words or more per day - Guess I should start counting...

-Like puzzles - LOVES puzzles
-Identify several part of body - She knows just about all of them.

General truth about the terrible twos: Two-year-olds are opinionated.

Why it’s tough: Two-year-olds are opinionated. But so are sixteen-year-olds, five-year-olds, and nine-year-olds. Two-year-olds probably get the bad rap, then, because they have opinions without a shred of self-consciousness — they couldn’t care less if you’re in public when they decide it’s worth shrieking bloody murder to defend their principles.
Why it’s not so terrible: If you think about it, at least with two-year-olds, you know where you stand. They aren’t shy about letting you know what they want, which is more than you might get from a cagey teenager.

General truth about the terrible twos: Two-year-olds have flawed reasoning.

Why it’s tough: While two-year-olds can talk (either sort of, or completely, depending on the kid), their reasoning sometimes calls for a code breaker. You can argue with — or even disagree with — a coherent opinion. But a sobbing two-year-old sometimes doesn’t make any sense, and it’s difficult to calm someone down when you have no clear notion of what’s upsetting her.

Horrible temper tantrums and nightmares. Awesome. We're back to getting up every couple hours. She's also getting to where she wants to take care of things. She loves doting on her baby doll and trying to wipe Zoe's butt.

Potty training. She's very intrigued by it and wants to sit on it. She'll stay there for a sec but then says "No." and jumps off. She wants to watch everybody go and would like to help wipe. Her new baby doll goes potty and this is FASCINATING.

Can you believe it?? I'm 1 1/2! I just went to the doctor and I'm growing like a weed! I am FINALLY back into the 50 percentile for height and weight (I was teeny for a while after being HUGE before that!)

And I'm tons of fun! This first year has gone by so quickly. My mom says that I'm the most amazing thing she's ever seen. My doctor can't believe my vocabulary. I can say over 25 words! I can walk, run, jump, draw... I'm just a little prodigy I tell you!

Can you believe it? I'm 5 months old today and I'm getting ready for my first Christmas! I've grown so much and gotten so big! I can roll over front to back and back to front, I can do "Baby Push-ups", I can sit all by myself, and so much more! I amaze Mommy and Daddy every single day. Only one more month until my 1/2 birthday!!!

I'm 4 months old today, and I have changed SO much! I'm very grabby, have great hand/eye coordination, and can now roll over back to front and front to back! I went to the doctor today and he just can't believe how strong I am!

All morning while I was hanging out with Daddy I was working on my different letter sounds. I can say B's, T's, G's, and so much more. My Dad was quite impressed.

I've giggled once or twice up until now, but today I laughed out loud. Mommy bent down and got in my face and I thought she looked hysterical. Then, this LOUD noise came out of my little butt and that was even funnier!!

Today I started to use mom as a spring board while we were having tummy time. I was pushing off her legs and swimming my little arms and I actually started to creep across the floor! It was so much fun!!!! I can NOT WAIT to make mommy chase me!!!

Today while mom and I were playing on the floor in my room I pushed off her hands and flipped over from my back to my belly for the very first time! I'm getting so big and strong! I swear soon I'll be crawling... just you watch!

My First Halloween

It's my very first Halloween and I'm a kitty cat! I look WAY too cute for my own good. During the day mommy, gammy, and I went trick or treating around the area businesses. Then in the evening I hung out with Yaya!! It was a great day!

My Third Month

Mommy and Gammy took my to the Pumpkin Patch for the very first time. We had so much fun taking pictures, getting cider, and mommy bought me my very first pumpkins!

I'm 3 months old today! I'm getting to be such a big girl and I'm changing so much and growing every day! My colic is starting to subside and that sure makes mom and dad a lot happier! Now all I need to do is sleep longer than 2 hours at a time...

Today while mom and I were playing on the floor she put my toy just out of my reach. Well, I finally figured out that I can reach out and get it myself!Also, daddy had me flying up in the air above his head and I laughed hard at him for the very first time.

I'm 2 months old today and I had to go to the doctor again! This time he gave me shots and I was NOT happy about it. I didn't feel good all night long. NOT a good way to spend a birthday!!

My First Sleepover!

It's mom and dad's wedding anniversary today!! Yaya had me spend the night. Yaya and I had a GREAT time, but mom cried all night and dad came to get me bright and early because they missed me so much!

I was born on July 21, 2007 at 3:15am. I was 8lbs 7oz and 20in long

Here's how it went down:Mom and Dad arrived at Toledo Hospital on July 19, 2007 so Dr. D'Amato could get things going since I wasn't planning on coming out and mom's blood pressure was getting too high. My mom was in labor for about a day and a half with an audience that included Daddy, Gammy, Yaya, Auntie Jill, Great Auntie Jan, and Aunt Dana. She pushed for a couple hours, but I STILL wasn't coming out... not even a little bit! So in the wee hours of the 21st Dr. D'Amato decided to give mom a c-section and here I am!!!
